This past Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court made a reckless decision by siding with Bayer-Monsanto, making it harder for Americans to hold the company accountable in state courts. Elected and appointed officials have a duty to protect the people they serve. That's why it was deeply disappointing to see my opponent, Marty Jackley, use his office to sign an amicus brief supporting Bayer-Monsanto and its Roundup weed killer instead of standing with the people of South Dakota. Our neighboring state of Iowa is expected to see more than 22,000 new cancer diagnoses this year, many linked to agricultural chemical exposure. This ruling makes it even more difficult for farmers and families to seek justice in their own state courts. My opponent talks about states' rights and limiting federal power, but when it mattered, his actions told a different story.
